It's Time To Burst Your Virtual Bubble
I don't know about you, but I only hear about cool business conferences and retreats after they're over...
Between running a business, pulling bird feathers out of Huddy's mouth (#dogmomlife), and general life stuff piling up -- I can't always get to the events I want to anyway.
But this past week, I got the chance to speak at Jordan Gill's Make Your Mark Live! event in Dallas, TX.
Whether you didn't know about it, or couldn't make it there for any reason, I want to pass along what I learned there to you.
Here are my top takeaways from the event -- after you read them, hit "reply" and let me know which # resonated most with you:
01. BURST YOUR BUBBLE
I'm not sure if you know, but there's a whole universe out there outside of the online coaching bubble 🤣 Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a coach. Let me explain!
Every time I go to a conference with a wider variety of types of businesses, my own ideas grow and expand as I adapt and reflect on how what they're doing could be applied to my own business.
If you're a coach, you need to hear about business strategies and ideas from people outside your space, which is filled with the same ol' unoriginal regurgitated crappola.
It's sort of like eating PB&J every single day for your entire life and then going out for Middle Eastern food for the first time.... the flavors! The acidity! Your palate didn't even know things could taste this delish.
That's what it's like when you start branching out ^
Don't limit yourself to PB&J... the online business world has a lot more to offer. You just have to look for it.
02. ROCKETSHIP CONNECTIONS
In person events just hit different. Especially when they're as well done as Jordan's live events are.
With Make Your Mark Live!, Jordan did a masterful job at marrying education, collaboration, and fun. Let's just put it this way: she had a gelato stand come in the afternoon (and coincidentally, they served vegan PB&J gelato! 🤣)
Within minutes of stepping off stage, I had multiple podcast guest interview invites, requests for meetings, new affiliate partners and more. They were all invites from people I'd never met before Jordan's event.
By meeting in real life, you'll get the chance to genuinely connect with other business owners, come up with collaboration ideas, and see how you can authentically support one another.
Don't have the budget to jet off to conferences yet? Start local. I met most of my first business friends, and developed early partnerships, in my hometown of Philly first.
03. SMART REVENUE STREAMS
As someone who admittedly limits revenue streams to my own products -- I was inspired by fellow speaker, Taryn Rachelle's lesson on getting brands to sponsor your marketing channel(s).
Taryn taught us that sponsorships have to be mutually beneficial for you and the sponsor. So when you pitch a brand to sponsor your podcast or newsletter, show them what's in it for them. We all know how the sponsorship will benefit you ;)
Taryn also gave us the hot tip to send each sponsor pitch a media kit. In it, you should include your own stats, plus a marketing pitch outlining exactly how you're going to showcase the sponsor's product or create the ad.
She also tailors her media kit to each sponsor, and even goes the extra mile to include that sponsor's logo and branding on her kit.
04. ONE SIZE DOESN'T FIT ALL
In the same conference, we heard advice to DO and NOT DO the same exact thing -- and guess what? They're both right! Both approaches work for different people.
The more time I've been in business, and the more conferences I've attended, I've learned there are so many paths to success that lead to the same place (or different places of equal value!).
05. INCOMING: OPPORTUNITY
Are your palms sweating just thinking about public speaking? Hate small talk? Have a hard time explaining what you do or owning your accomplishments? Can't take a compliment to save your life?
At an in-person event, you get the opportunity to work on all of these things.
I think I've grown from each and every one I've attended. And each one gets a little bit easier from the "putting yourself out there" perspective.
06. MEET CUSTOMERS IRL!
People kept coming up to me at the event to let me know they were a customer (a few even emailed to say they were too shy to say hi!!).
I even ran into Ultimate Bundle® member, Melanie Gonzalez! ⤵️
I had a proud mama bear moment when Melanie's tablemates selected her "business secret" as the best at their table, prompting Melanie to have to go before the entire room and share it on stage! She did such an incredible job 👏
OK, Reader -- now it's your turn. You know the deal, this is a two-way street.

💬 SUBSCRIBER QUESTION OF THE WEEK
"A website has a URL similar to my trademark. Is this trademark infringement?"
If you have a registered trademark, you can't necessarily block other people from using that word or phrase as their domain name. In other words, having a trademark doesn't give you ownership over a URL, and having a URL, alone, doesn't give you a trademark in that name.
So no, a website having a name similar to your mark isn't, in and of itself, infringement.
